How is Your O2 Level?

There my mom was, lying in the hospital bed, hooked up and plugged in to all manner of medical devices. There I was, quietly observing her as she rested, available to assist in any way she needed. Constantly stealing glances at the monitor screen, watching her heart rate, blood pressure and O2 levels as they bounced. They say getting a pacemaker is easy-peasey, normally not even keeping the patient overnight! But Mama was getting the “deluxe treatment.” As she was having a second procedure the next day, she got to spend the night, thus so did...

aaaannnd … they’re gone.

aaaannnd … they’re gone.

Our oldest daughter and her family just pulled out of the driveway early this morning. They were here for a late Christmas together and then we got to take care of our sweet granddaughter while Mommy and Daddy went away for a work conference and a few days of R&R. Funny how they thanked US for keeping her when allowing us to do so was such a gift to us! I got to go get her out of her crib this morning and just had to capture the beauty of her sleeping before I picked her up. Needless to say, the picture doesn’t even begin to reveal the...

juicy and delicious!

juicy and delicious!

Have you ever bitten into an apple only to discover that it was bad? Somehow you missed the telltale signs of its rottenness until you had a mouthful of it. Yuck! Or how about when you’re eating grapes and they are delicious, up until you get that nasty one that’s bitter, not sweet? Then there is the fruit that looks good on the outside, like a pretty green honeydew. But when you cut it up and take a bite, it is tough and tasteless, clearly not ripe and definitely not worth whatever you paid for it! Do you ever feel a bit like Goldilocks?...

selah!

selah!

Repeatedly in scripture, particularly in Psalms, we see the word Selah. The Amplified Bible translates that as “Pause,” as in “take some time to breathe, listen, reflect and remember.” Pause. Go ahead. Do it! Just breathe. Clear your mind, settle your heart and turn your attention to what the God of the Universe might be whispering in your ear! Your Creator is calling you! He knows you by name and He is inviting you in to a deeper relationship with Him. Don’t let the activities and busy-ness of the holidays keep you from reveling in the whole...

‘Tis the Season

Ready or not, here it comes! Yep, in just a few short weeks Christmas will be here! Do you have your tree trimmed, stockings hung, shopping done and gifts wrapped? Please say NO! As “they” say, misery loves company! Is it so wrong that I’m hoping I’m not the only one still trying to get it all together? It seems that, just like in every other area of my life, when it comes to managing the holidays I am a “work in progress!” But what I am getting better at is enjoying the journey. The ever-elusive goal of having everything done isn’t all it’s...

Treasure: Lost and Found

I had quite the scare at church on Sunday. During worship I suddenly noticed that my diamond was missing from my wedding ring! Talk about a sick feeling! Upset and grieved, I struggled to not let those emotions show up on my face. I didn’t want to be a distraction to anyone around me. I was also aware of how rapidly my focus shifted from worshipping to worrying. Uttering a quick, but heartfelt prayer, I glanced down and was stunned to see the glimmer of my diamond lying on the carpet near my feet! Bending to pick it up, waves of relief washed...

Negative Nelly

Every. Single. Time. When family gathers for the holidays, you can count on it. Your cousin’s kid walks in the room and says “I’m hungry.” Your dad just can’t let it go. “Nice to meet you, Hungry! My name is Tom.” The holidays are upon us and families are gathering. It’s that time of year. Let the bad jokes and puns commence! I know, some of you are wishing for bad jokes and puns. It’s the nosy questions and critical comments that roll out of Aunt Susie’s mouth that drive you crazy. Nothing better than a good tongue lashing on a national...
